Florence Discovery + Academy of Arts (half day)

Sitting on a spectacular  valley, crossed by the Arno river, dominated by the Brunelleschi’s cupola, here is the Italian capital of art and renaissance, the city of Dante, Michelangelo, Leonardo, Donatello, the city of the Medici family, the city of gold and leather, literally an incredible museum in the open air.

We offer you a private customized visit of the most spectacular monuments and sights of Florence including the Academy of Fine Arts, the  Duomo of St. Mary of the Flower, the Baptistery, Via dei Calzaiuoli, Republic’s square, Piazza della Signoria, the Old Bridge and the Piazza Pitti.

Our guide will pick you up at the hotel and you will reach the Academy of Fine Arts with a reserved ticket in order to skip the long lines. Since 1873 the “David” by Michelangelo is preserved in this  museum and it certainly represents the masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture. We are going to spend approximately 1 hr in the Academy and then continue our walking tour through the historical centre of Florence.

Our next stop is Piazza San Giovanni , the heart of the city, the square where we are going to admire the splendor of the Florence Cathedral, 4th largest church in the world, with it’s amazing cupola and tower of Giotto, then continuing with the outside of the Baptistery, so famous for the “Paradise Gate” by Ghiberti.

Our stroll will go on through the main street of the city, called Via de Calzaiuoli (shoemakers street) and reach the Piazza della Repubblica, the old Roman forum and today the place of the  most elegant Cafes of the city.

Heading towards the Arno river we will make a stop at the “Loggia del Porcellino” famous for the statue of the Wild Boar: all people coming to Florence have to put a coin on the Boar’s tongue and make a wish in order to come back to the city.

The beautiful Ponte Vecchio is our next stop: this bridge is the only one which was not bombed during the second world war and is today famous for its gold stores. We’ll cross the bridge and reach the Piazza Pitti to see the outside of the Palazzo Pitti, the old Medici family Residence.

Piazza della Signoria is an open museum and that’s what we are going to see next, a beautiful square hosting lots of neoclassical statues, a copy of the David, the fountain of Neptune, the city hall palace, all the marvels the Medici family gave to the city.

Our tour ends up in the square.
